https://goo.gl/QPCkqk - Start earning with binary options like millions of traders do Indonesia is Southeast Asia's largest economy and one of the world's largest countries by population, so it makes sense that tactical emerging markets investors stay abreast of the economy there. Exchange-traded funds (ETFs) make that task easier. Despite its large economy, Indonesia is merely the ninth largest country weight in the widely followed MSCI Emerging Markets Index at an allocation of 2.3%. Taiwan is more than quadruple the weight in the emerging markets benchmark. Thus, when accessing Indonesian equities, ETFs such as the iShares MSCI Indonesia ETF (EIDO) and the VanEck Vectors Indonesia ETF (IDX) make sense. However, EIDO and IDX are each up more than 12% year to date. While that sounds impressive, the returns offered by the Indonesia ETFs are less than half the performance generated by the MSCI Emerging Markets Index, indicating that investors should evaluate other factors before racing into the Indonesian funds. (See also: Encouragement for Indonesia ETFs.) Data from Statistics Indonesia indicated that Indonesian gross domestic product rose 5.0% in the second quarter, slightly undershooting analysts' forecasts of 5.1%, but broadly in line with that signaled well in advance by the PMI surveys, said Markit. The latest expansion of GDP was identical to that seen in the previous quarter, and it was in line with IHS Markit's forecast of 5.0% annual GDP growth this year. (See also: Indonesia's GDP Growth Misses Expectations, ETFs in Focus.) Another issue that investors need to consider with Indonesian equities is that the asset class is more volatile than broader emerging markets benchmarks. For example, the average three-year standard deviation on EIDO and IDX is about 19.5% compared with 16% on the MSCI Emerging Markets Index. Additionally, there are some signs that economic growth in the country is being hampered. While consumption and capital investment remained key drivers of the economy, growth was hampered by a decline in government spending and a marked slowdown in net export growth. Overall, economic growth over the first half of 2017 was below expectations, and there are indications that hitting the 5.2% target set by the government will be challenging, adds Markit. The major determinant in the price action delivered by EIDO and IDX is Indonesian banks. EIDO and IDX allocate an average of 30% to financial services stocks. However, both ETFs feature robust consumer exposure. For example, IDX allocates almost 31% of its weight to consumer staples and consumer discretionary stocks. Year to date, investors have not shown much affinity for the Indonesia ETFs, as highlighted by combined outflows of about $42 million. (See also: Indonesia's Inflation Eases: ETFs in Focus.)

SOUNDBITE (English) Muhammad Andi Asrun, analyst, Indonesian Judicial Watch: "So if the judges try to hide something and try to make the decision unfair then people will say that 'Yeah, the high profile people cannot be tried fairly'." 18. Judge banging gavel, judges exiting court STORYLINE: Taking the stand for the first time on Monday on corruption charges, the speaker of Indonesia's Parliament has blamed a co-defendant for misusing millions of dollars meant to feed poor families. Akbar Tandjung is charged with abuse of power and corruption for allegedly misusing 4.5 (M) million (US) dollars of funds from state food agency Bulog that were earmarked for food distribution in 1999. Tandjung told the court he received a letter from co-defendant Winfred Simatupang - who was contracted to distribute the food - apologising for misusing the money and informing him the funds had since been returned. Prosecutors are expected to present the missing money later in the trial as evidence. President Megawati Sukarnoputri has promised to get tough on powerful politicians who break the law. Tandjung's case is considered a test of Megawati's willingness to act on those promises and reform a court system seen as corrupt and inefficient. Tandjung - one of Indonesia's most powerful politicians and the leader of former dictator Suharto's Golkar Party - could face up to 20 years in prison if found guilty. How To Invest In Indonesia: http://www.indonesiainvestment.org/landing/bali-land-investment?NYT2 A latest study conducted by the Asian Real Estate Association (AREA) shows that investors are keeping on hold short-term allocation of money in non-listed properties investment funds in Asia but are committing more money for longer terms. Another survey Investment Intentions Asia reveals that nearly 50% of the investors plan to enhance allocations to non-listed properties investment funds in Asia for medium-term periods of 3 to 5 years, compared to about 24% who intend to invest for short-term periods of 1 to 2 years. This is due to the expectation of fund managers and individual investors that the even the Asian economies that are not doing well right now would recover strongly in 2010, while the marginal decrease in the growth rate of countries like China and India would be reversed to higher growth again. Strong Recovery of Asian Properties Markets The housing market bubble bursting in the middle of 2008 in the United States initially affected the Asian properties markets also. However, latest data suggest that these markets recovered much faster than other regions. The first quarter of 2009 witnessed lowest investment levels in Asian real estate markets. However, the investments started improving thereafter in a gradual manner. The main reasons for such a strong recovery was the continuation of the low real estate investment financing costs, a stabilizing price trend across the major segments of the Asian real estate markets, and a recovery in the Asian equity markets. Higher Investment in Asian Real Estate A report from Asia Investment Market View provides data that the direct investment in Asian properties market surged 56% in the second half of 2009 from the same period in 2008. The total investments in Asian property markets had been estimated at $25 billion. The real estate markets of China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong led the recovery, accounting for about 57% of the total volume of investment in Asia during the above period. In Greater China alone, the volume of transactions was $15 billion, a jump of 169% from the second half of 2008. The real estate markets of Japan, Singapore, and Korea accounted for an increase of 17%, 9%, and 8% of the total investment in Asia. Office properties continued to enjoy the preference of investors with more than $10 billion invested in the second half of 2009. This was about 41% of the total investment volume. Residential properties attracted around 20% of the total volume, while 16% went to the investments in retail sector. Industrial property investments also witnessed a growth of 155% in the second half of 2009, compared to the first half, for a total investment volume of $1.8 billion. Future Prospects in Asian Properties Market Investments Majority of global fund managers expect the Asian governments to adjust their monetary policy measures to tighten the lending to property investments to avoid the creation of new bubble asset situations. It is perceived that the prices and volumes of investment across most of the sectors are on the increase, particularly in the office and residential markets. Still, majority of residential markets are in the early stages of recovery. The fiscal tightening measures by the Asian governments are anticipated to cool the possible overheating in the Asian real estate markets across various sectors due to the higher demand and greater investment inflows into the Asian markets from other regions. An example of Asian real estate market growth Recent reports show that the tallest residential tower in the world would be built in Mumbai, India. The Lodha Group would be constructing a 117-storey apartment skyscraper on an old cotton mill site of 17 acres in Mumbai in a central area of the city. The building is expected to be 442 meters high. The tallest residential building at present is in Australia and its height is 323 meters. The new building would have 276 luxury apartments. The Lodha Group had appointed Pei Cobb Freed and Partners of New York as the architects for this new towering building. The construction is expected to be completed in 2014. The Group is also expected to undertake another similar project in a nearby area in the same city.
